Edinburgh, Scotland, June 27, 2023 – A new era in the Scottish textile industry is being unveiled, as Regenerative Textiles Scotland (RTS) prepares to launch its inaugural event, symposium, and exhibition this July at the historic Dovecot Studios in Edinburgh.
The event, spearheaded by Dr John Ennis, Anna Freemantle-Zee, and Susan Anderson, is being officially launched by Her Majesty The Queen, HM Queen Camilla.
RTS was established to galvanise and enable the Scottish textiles economy, introducing a fresh perspective and innovative action towards a regenerative textiles economy. The collaborative initiative focuses on ensuring sustainability and a circular economy in the textile sector, reshaping the industry for a more robust and ecologically friendly future.
The two-day event, which will be held on the 5th and 6th of July 2023, will take attendees on a captivating journey through the world of textiles. The exhibition will feature key garments from contemporary producers in Scotland, as well as new work from Scotland’s top university fashion and textile students. National and local initiatives that foster regenerative textile cultures will also be highlighted.
A Symposium will coincide with the exhibition, aiming to share new thinking and shed light on the essential steps towards regenerative textile production. The Symposium will bring together voices from various sectors – Farming, Processing and Production, Retailer, Consumer and Fashion, as well as from broader cultural bases such as Education, Heritage, and Activism.
“We’re thrilled to be launching this initiative, which we believe represents a turning point for the textile industry in Scotland. It’s a collaborative effort to promote a sustainable future, with the ultimate goal of establishing a regenerative textile economy that is economically viable and environmentally responsible,” stated Anna Freemantle-Zee.
Spaces for this ground-breaking event are limited, and those interested in attending are encouraged to book their tickets soon. While the event is free to attend, registration is required.
