The Referendum, the world it seems knows, the population of Scotland goes to the polls tomorrow – YES! or NO Thanks X – Who do I believe will win the day?
I believe we’ll look back over the last 18 months of campaigning and realise that:
– The passionate speakers have really been listened to
– The ones that have made their proclamations personal
– The ones that visibly care the most are the ones that will win – there’s been very little evidence of this one…
I’m in the middle of delivering a set of my social media sessions (training) to local businesses and there’s a great cross-section as always, we’ve got an entrepreneur with a new widget, an Office Manager from a Property letting business, the owner of a web design business an administrator from a housing association… really great to see.
I have a lot of fun creating scenarios or reciting case studies all of which I play a part or I’ve had a direct contribution to – this is not to boost my ego or ensure I stay centre stage, it’s the way I engage with everyone in the room. It’s personal, I get passionate and as I’ve said before passion sells (love pays the bills).
When you’re distracted by something on your phone (aside from the annoying or unwanted phone calls and texts!) what is it that grabs your attention? You’re either looking at Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or maybe BBC News, the Daily Mail depending on your age it might be Instagram, Snapchat or CyberDust. The first three, it’s either funny, shocking or personal, in the news sites its funny or shocking or to do with a personal interest the last two (snapchat, cyberdust) it’s because you’ve been sent them… Think about that from a business point of view.
– How do you cut through the crap?
– How do you wade through that wash of noise, particularly if your a professional business with a mature audience?
– How do you connect?
– How do you engage?
Be in it for the long game – there are no quick wins (we as marketers have pretty much mucked that bit up)
Make it personal – we connect with people we know or think we know or look up to
And LISTEN! Actually search for your name, your product and connect with those conversations, join in – stop pushing crap down my throat.
Who are you voting for?
