Did you know that your local corner shop (from House of Fraser to Ali’s) will be charging you 5p for a plastic bag. The law in Scotland is catching up to Wales and Ireland where the Scottish Government will insist and penalise shops for not charging you for those carrier bags that you use once and throw away. We have to get out of the habit of running across to the corner shop and letting them put your goods into a plastic, (and paper above a certain size) bag.
I attended a seminar organised by Zero Waste Scotland on behalf of a couple of retail clients – just to see if there was a marketing opportunity and obviously report back on the legislation – it kicks into action 20th October 2014! Carrier Bag Charge Scotland website
So come on retailers let’s have some fun with this. How about charging more (you’re allowed to) and making the bags not just collectible and reusable but fun. I offer you some designs that have been created in the past – these are just the tip of the iceberg – our creativity is all that stands between you making some money and giving everyone a laugh on the way to work!
