Having hummed and hawed over my sojourn to the Edinburgh College of Art Fashion Show I can confidently say I was more blown away by the Performance Costume element of the show for the attempt of audience feedback. What I mean to say is – will we ever be aghast, immediately get to our feet to whoop and whistle – as once happened to John Galliano and Alexander McQueen’s Graduate show? They were spectacles to behold.
Don’t get me wrong there was some accomplished work and clearly the ECA has a brilliant approach to fabric technology, pattern cutting and experimentation of cut. But to see unfinished pieces, badly sewn in zips (a lot) and what the hell were those damp face cloths doing on those guys heads?
Okay, enough moaning, the majority should be very proud of their work and I wish them every success. The standout collection for me was Holly Glover
and Kirsty Frew
Others should definitely get a mention:
Louise Bell and Bryony Strange – brilliant pattern cutting and fabric tech.
The most commercial collection has to go to Sarah Kilkenny.
