In the work that we do should we not be seeking perfection?
Is it hard to expect less than what we would hope to achieve ourselves?
Is your idea of perfection different from mine?
We know that in the technical world perfection is the equation that delivers the optimum result. But of course when nature gets involved the elements of the equation are susceptible to alteration depending on who or what creates them.
Delivering a blog post about seeking perfection in a social world – where does it lead us? Clearly asking more questions than answering.
We want to achieve £sales, brand awareness, trust, thought-leadership, virality, growth… and so much more. So how is it attained?
My knowledge of the digital world and all things social online leads me to believe that nothing replaces hard work, there is no quick fix unless you hit the mood of the world at exactly the right time (cue Gangnam Style with 1.9 Billion views on Youtube).
Let’s say you are a financial institution looking to better engage your customers with the primary goal of getting them to love you more. We know the knock on effect… more word-of-mouth, more products (I’m simplifying the brief but you get the picture).
Our route dictates:
1. Research:
- i. Customer profiles (we want the ones that make the best margin for the bank)
- ii. Customer habits (where are they social and at what time)
- iii. Customer engagement (what are their likes and dislikes – broad brush doesn’t work, be specific)
2. Preparation:
- i. Create a content plan based on the timeline you are working to
- ii. Create content that is entertaining, engaging, unique to the channel and informative (the hard bit)
- iii. Create content around objectives and set aside adequate time for reactive content
3. Rota:
- i. Who is doing what when?
- ii. Is the Agency working hand-in-hand with the Brand or autonomously (which is dangerous in my view)?
- iii. My working day is 7am – 9am, 12noon – 2pm, 5pm – 9pm. When’s yours?
4. Planning – that’s for part 2 – to be continued
