Here’s the thing – I have been approached by a label (previously unknown to me) to find and deliver a new designer and take the collection to market using my digital marketing background but also drawing from my time in the fashion industry. For me the shoe has been on both feet – I’ve been a designer selling and for far longer was a buyer for a department store and latterly for Burberry (1999).
So I find myself in Kaunas (Lithuania) preparing for a meeting with the manufacturer still deciding with my chosen designer (to be revealed) on fabric choices for elements of the collection. Weighing up fabric choices based on price per metre and minimum quantities not just accessibility, weight and colour – because we need to meet the right price point to achieve our expected margins… And there was me thinking I’d left this kind of thought behind when I left college more than 20 years ago.
So we march boldly into the dining room of our hotel with the soul aim of finding a suitable bottle of wine and some food that will have trouble touching the sides.
The picture above is one of our chosen models to take the collection to market – Anna Freemantle, but more of that to come, there’s a long hill to climb first!
