I was an honoured guest around the table with assembled journalists from The Herald, Scotland on Sunday, The Scotsman, Sarah from Modus PR, Kevin from Harvey Nichols and of course a couple of bods from Pringle of Scotland (but more of them later).
The story is a simple one – this evening they launch a new collection designed by students of Central St Martins (MA / BA) inspired by their history.
Pringle set sail in 1851 and became a leader in innovative techniques for knitwear whether, print, intarsia, layering, twin sets, feathering, combined mixed media, felting… but somehow lost their way in the 1980’s and early 90’s but this resurgence in true creative is inspiring. They were one of the first to use celebrity for marketing (see the Hollywood years) hence their figure-head Tilda Swinton. You may recall the story about Freya Mavor (the Scottish actress from Skins), she was their lead for S/S 11 – Tilda is back in the saddle (so to speak).
Pringle is definitely back in the game – which is great for Scotland but it’s also great for fashion; roll on London Fashion Week!
