Scottish models Lisa Cunningham and Kirsty Colquhoun are proof you don’t need supermodel stats to be a cover girl. Kirsty is a size 16 while Lisa is 5ft 4in tall and both had been put off becoming models because they didn’t fit the traditional shape.
They amongst 4 others have won a competition with fashion chain River Island to star in Company magazine’s latest issue.
The editor was so impressed she picked Lisa as covergirl and Kirsty to model the issue’s main fashion spread. Kirsty, who is in her second year of psychology and sociology at Edinburgh’s Napier University, is also a make-up artist and enjoys experimenting with different looks.
Fellow Scot Lisa, 21, from Cumnock, Ayrshire, works in PR for Real Radio had applied to many model agencies. But at 5ft 4in, she’s become used to being turned down.
Editor Victoria White said: “We promote confidence in women of all shapes and sizes. “The six winning girls have ticked all the boxes when it comes to being a Company girl. They all look stunning and you would never have guessed they weren’t professional models.” For Lisa, it’s an important issue not just for the winners but for every woman who reads it. She said: “It’s so important to have real women in magazines.
“You don’t walk the streets and see supermodels every day.
“It’s important to remind people of that, because there’s a stress on looking perfect and we need to accept how we look and be proud of it.”
Company magazine is on sale from Saturday.
