This 4 parter (The Crimson Petal and the White) currently showing on BBC 2 is making quite a stir for a number of reasons, not least for the brilliant acting by Ramola Garai, Chris O’Dowd and Gillian Anderson (yet to see much of Richard E Grant), the fact that Michael Fabers story surrounds the reawakening of mans potential through the use of a nurturing prostitute plays a big part – but the dedication to Victoriana – London City as the backdrop and mounds of crinoline and finely boned corsetry.
This joint production is very good and I’m guessing some of its influences will be witnessed on the High Street soon. The predilection of faux suspender tights made an appearance at the end of last year – will we witness layer upon layer of under skirt, day time fascinators or velvet cuffs on mens coats…
