Have you noticed there’s loads of interesting changes happening in retail – first I got wind of the exodus of some of the buying team from New Look to Primark. But the latest is the first TV Advert from Matalan in 4 years – what worries me more though is their complete lack of understanding towards their social media profile. Matalan have a brilliant opportunity to maximise a captive audience through their existing database and build a phenomenal profile that gets active passionate shoppers in their stores. But hey, it’s easy for me to say in the comfort of my own studio what’s right or wrong for them…
What I’m getting at is the build up to the TV ad – don’t keep it to yourselves, share the process – get your fans and followers involved create some interest and passion in the process – and why? To get free ambassadors for the business – they feel empowered by the sharing process. Then there’s the multiple opportunities driven by the call to action by driving more fans allowing them to communicate and share their experiences on sites like Facebook and Twitter which gives them access to incentives, opening times and store locations… I could go on and on here but you must be getting the picture. MarCis wrote a piece about Oreo’s latest advertising, quite an interesting approach.
Matalan’s TV ad – would you be happy with their call to action?
