I get the distinct impression that Westwood is on a major climate change mission to the extent that analysing rubbish / garbage was the inspiration for her latest collection.

I own a number of Westwood pieces myself including suits and knitear so you’ll know I’m not about to knock our Grand Dame but I am often intrigued by her influences due to the lack of distractions in her life – she doesn’t allow the playing of a radio in her studio – she doesn’t own a TV so very rarely has an opportunity to watch anything and yet every 6 months her fashion cycle is so on the money. It is often right in synch with so many others although clearly with her very recognisable stamp.

But S/S2011 I’m not loving her work quite as much – it looks a wee bit too much like rags and distressed fabrics where most others have embraced soft floaty fringes – my bet, the buyers will of course invest in a number of key pieces just not anywhere near as much as in previous seasons.

Thanks to ShinyStyle.TV for the images – the most commercial pieces I could find (Red Label Collection)
