Consider the dilemma – your little girl now 17 almost 18 is in 6th year at a private school and she’s been brought up around relative wealth – hell she was telling step mother aged 4 “should you really be buying that Burberry handbag, have you not got another one at home”… need I say more? So you know it’s a big occasion, a big deal in her life, yet you also know that within 3 to 4 hours of stepping out of the dressing room it will have fag burns, red wine stains…
They’re young – we were too once (although our end of year dance wasn’t called a Prom – but that’s another story) and born with silver spoons, people running around after them – my darling girl is part of the “Plastic’s” – I’m sure you know what I mean – anyway, what do we consider a worthwhile investment that no one else will have that she will find acceptable within 50 mile radius.
Where does one shop when not in London – are we restricted to the High Street (I don’t think so), so we search out boutiques with restricted quantities, only to discover that due to the fact they have the biggest 6th year on record and that the owner knows most of the Mum’s and has earmarked the cream of the crop for her favourites… so what are we left with? Vintage or Designer Exchange (old season 2nd’s) – again junior will not succumb to such tastes – “Come on Dad… I mean really!”
Or is there an alternative in Edinburgh or Glasgow that I’ve missed?
